Request authorization for installation of new fireplace insert at library.
Background/Discussion
The original fireplace insert at the library was electric because a gas line was not planned due the
geothermal heat source of the building. Feedback form the public has been that the electric fireplace is
disappointing. Staff researched other electric products and concluded that none of them will provide the
desired effect. The Library Board requested staff to investigate a gas alternative.
At the October 28, 2008 Library Board meeting, the Board voted to recommend to City Council that a
new fireplace be installed.
Attached please find prelirninary shop drawings and images for a gas fireplace insert for the library.
Installation includes the following:
^ Shop Drawings and Permits
^ Stainless tapered burner with heat treated rocks
^ Replace old glass with tempered high heat glass
^ Power vent and chimney
^ Ram Cap
Financial Impact
Cost for fireplace and installation $13,526
CenterPoint Energy gas line installation $3,526
Installation of interior gas supply line $1,000
Total project cost $17,811
This project can be funded using the library fund reserves.

Viereck Fireplace Sales will install one (1) stainless tapered burger with heat
treated rocks Into the existing f z~place. Qld glass will be remaved and
replaced with new tai, temp, kzl cheat glass.
A power vent and chimney will be installed froze the cezzter of the existing
fireplace. 'i'bis will require approximately 30 feet of class f3 10 inch pipe
with elbows and a rain cap to cover the power vent,

Paul Viereck will hook up gas luxe to the fireplace, burner and valve
assembly.
Viereck Fireplace Sales will supply valve and pilot assembly with secured
wall switch ignition for ease of operation.

height and 13TU~ range priox to installation.
