SR 04-22-1996%tem 5.4. ~ity of River FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: MEMORANDUM Mayor and City Council Sandra Thackeray, City Clerk April 22, 1996 Proclamation for Older American's Month Senior Citizen Coordinator Sue Kostanshek has requested that the Council honor older Americans during the month of March as significant members of our society. She has also requested that May 13-19 be proclaimed as Senior Center Week in honor of the contributions provided the Elk River Senior Center participants. The attached proclamation honors older Americans and senior center participants. ACTION REQUESTED It has been requested that Vice Mayor Holmgren or a member of the Council read the proclamation. Box 490 · Elk River, MN 55330 · (612) 441-7420 · Fax: (612) 441-7425 City of Elk River, Minnesota PROCLAMATION OLDER AMERICANS' MONTH - May SENIOR CENTER WEEK- May 13-19, 1996 WHEREAS, older Americans are significant members of our society, investing their wisdom and experience to help enrich and better the lives of younger generations; and, WHEREAS, the Elk River Senior Center has acted as a catalyst for mobilizing the creativity, energy, vitality, and commitment of the older residents of Elk River; and, WHEREAS, through the wide array of services, programs, and activities, Senior Centers empower older citizens of the city of Elk River to contribute to their own health and well-being of their fellow citizens of all ages; and, WHEREAS, the Elk River Senior Center affirms the dignity, self-worth and independence of older persons by tapping their experiences, skills, and knowledge; and enabling their continued contributions to the community. NOW, THEREFORE, I, VICE MAYOR HOLMGREN, do hereby proclaim May - Older Americans' Month May 13-19, 1996, - Senior Center Week and call upon all citizens to recognize the special contributions of the Elk River Senior Center participants, and the special efforts of the staff and volunteers who work every day to enhance the well-being of the older citizens of our community.
