Action Requested
Staff is requesting Council continue funding clean up weeks in the spring and fall, along with the Saturday
clean-up day at the end of April.
Background/Discussion
The following is a break down of the financials as well as materials collected from the City's fall clean-up
week (October 20 - 24) at the Elk River Landfill. This event served a record of 208 households (with 2
non-residents participating in free item disposal).

Residents look forward to participating in this very successful program each year. Staff suspects that the
beautiful fall weather, as well as the free charge for large electronic items, kept participation brisk during
the week.
If the City continues mattress recycling, prices will have to be adjusted from $6.00 per item to $7.00 per
item as Goodwill Industries has increased the costs for disposal through their facility.
Financial Impact
As listed above, the cost incurred for this event was $1,516.09 (approximately $7.29 per household that
participated).
