Box 490 Elk River, MN 55330 RE: MAIN STREET BRIDGE RAILING Dear Mr. Klaers: CIVIL ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENTAL MUNICIPAL %ANNING SOLID WASTE STRUCTURAL SURVEYING TRAFFIC TRANSPORTATION ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL ENGINEERING HVAC ROWER D!STRBUTION SCADA SYSTEM CONTROLS OFFICES IN: MINNEAPOLIS PRIOR LAKE ST. PAUL WASECA A few weeks ago, Councilmember Dietz asked me to investigate the cost of installing a pedestrian railing on the south side of the Main Street Bridge. I believe this was in response to a concern by Mr. Doug Dill regarding pedestrians on the south side of the bridge. As you are aware, there are no pedestrian facilities on the south side of the bridge. The sidewalk is located on the north side; therefore, no railing was installed along the south side. We contacted National Steel Fabricators and requested a price to both fabricate a matching railing for the south side and to install it. The ballpark prices that we were provided with are $45.00 per linear foot to fabricate railing and an installation cost of $30.00 per linear foot. The total bridge length is 275 feet, which results in a total cost for railing on the south side of the bridge of approximately $21,000. I gave this information to Councilmember Dietz by phone. He requested that I prepare a memo which could be included in the informational packet of a future City Council meeting. If you have any questions regarding this information, please call.
