Bereavement Acknowledgment
It has been brought to my attention that the city does not have a
standard policy for acknowledging the bereavement of a city
employee, or of an employee's immediate family member (parents,
spouse or children).
The Council may want to consider a policy to deal with this type of
situation. One option is for the City to contribute a monetary token
(flowers, memorial, etc.) to the deceased employee or employee's
immediate family. If this were the case, then it would only be fair for
the policy to include all employees in the program. All employees
would include the following departments: city hall, police, street,
WWTP, utilities, liquor store, fire, and park and recreation.
Another option would be to have employees cover the cost of the
monetary token by themselves by "passing the hat." If this were the
case, the council would have the option of being included with the
rest of the employees or doing something on their own.
