Box 490 Elk River, MN 55330 RE: TRUNK HIGHWAY 10 TRAFFIC CONTROL INTERCONNECTION Dear Mr. Klaers: As I informed the City Council at a meeting last month, MnDOT is planning a traffic control interconnect project on TH 10. This project will connect the signals at Main Street, Jackson Avenue, and Proctor Avenue. This should greatly improve the flow of traffic on TH 10 through the City. I did not know at that time that MnDOT would be looking for City cost participation. They have submitted the plans to me at this point for City approval, and have indicated that the project will be 80% federally funded and the remaining 20% will be equally split between MnDOT legs, City legs, and the one County leg. They estimate that the City's share would be approximately $7,000. As we discussed earlier with Lori Johnson, this expenditure would be MSA fundable; however, with this small of an amount, I would recommend some other funding source if available, to eliminate the need for MSA paperwork. Certainly we have enough projects in the City to use our MSA funds on that we do not have to worry about pulling money out for these small projects if other funds are available. I would recormnend that the City Council approve the plans and authorize me to sign them on the City's behalf. If you have any questions regarding this issue, please call. Sincerely, MSA, CONSULTING ENGINEERS Terry J. g, faurer, P.E. TJM:tw 000-1010.may An Equal Opportunity Employer
