MEMORANDUM
TO: Energy City Commission
FROM: Nicki Blake-Bradley, Environmental Technician
DATE: March I I, 2008
SUBJECT: April 19, 2008 Energy Expo Update
Spectrum Charter School is almost midway through their projects. Bob and teachers
have commented that the students have some really interesting ideas, so it will be
interesting to see th_e final results. Both contests "end" on April 4`h and must be turned
in by the end of the day on Monday, April 7`h to qualify for the competition. The
Energy Innovations contest will be judged by the Energy City Commissioners at
Spectrum High School on April 9t`' during a special meeting of the Energy City
Commission (moving up the meeting by one week).
Donations have increased since the last meeting. Nicki contacted Walmart and was
informed that our grant application "will be processed immediately" (even though it was
submitted in December, they didn't think they needed to process it before April). The
grant we will receive is $1,000 (Watt level). Several more exhibitors signed up as well.
One exhibitor, Seal Guard Systems, inquired about "hosting" the event for next year
and has offered to "advertise" the event for us at prior shows (for example, a trade
show in Anoka in March).
There are about 28 total exhibitors signed up, some of which are also sponsors. The
deadline for signing up as an exhibitor was March IOth. Commissioner Rohlf informed
Staff that Elk River Ford will not be able to have a hybrid as an exhibit, although they are
willing to sponsor at the exhibitor level. Commissioner Rohlf stated they contacted
every dealership they could (including calling Detroit) and none are available. MN Corn
Growers Association will have ethanol vehicles to show.
The awards for all three contests have been received. The glass awards look great...
check them out at the meeting. Signs will also be made to place on the tables of the
three Energy Innovations winners to designate them. The winners of the video contest
will be listed on a sign, posted in the City Hall entrance.
