3. ECCSR 01-16-2008ver MEMORANDUM TO: Energy City Commission FROM: Rebecca Haug, Environmental Administrator DATE: January 9, 2008 SUBJECT: April 19, 2008 Energy Expo Update The subcommittee met on January 8 and made quite a few decisions to continue moving the Expo along. Spectrum Charter School will be having akick-off for the "Energy Enny's" and "Energy Innovation Contest" the end of January. The local utilities will be invited to come to the school in mid-February to talk to the students about some of the new energy technologies. The plan for the I I`h graders will also be to take a tour of a few of the Energy City demonstration sites. The Coloring Contest flyer is on the Energy City and City of Elk River websites. The contest is open to children between the ages of 5- 12. There will be two age categories: 5-9 and 10- 12. Awards will be given to the winner of each age category. If you are interested and able to put the flyer on your website, please let me know and I will e- mail it out. Also, if you would like hard copies, let me know and I will make them for you. The sponsorships are starting to come in. To date, Sherburne County has agreed to allocate up to $ I I ,600, Connexus Energy is sponsoring at the Watt ($1,000) level, the Elk River Star News is again going to run two full page ads worth $3964 and print and distribute the coloring contest flyer worth $2148.30. A number of other companies have agreed to sponsor such as RRT, Centerpoint and ERMU. Our budget is tight this year so any donation will be appreciated. The number of exhibitors hasn't changed from the last meeting so we have ECONAR, Ultimate Exteriors and the Sierra Club. GRE has inquired about being an exhibitor, the MN Corn Grower's Association is planning on being an exhibitor and bringing a flex fuel vehicle, Chair Zehringer will be contacting Neil James, Sterling Engine about being an exhibitor again this year. ERMU will be purchasing 500 CFL's to be distributed to attendees. I have attached a list of the exhibitors who have been contacted. Please look it over and let me know if there should be any additions. Also, the subcommittee talked about calling the exhibitors to ask if they plan on attending, so I will be passing around asign-up sheet for the Commissioners to pick some exhibitors to call. The subcommittee has also decided to order the tent, chairs, tables, etc through Cenaiko. This is the same company that provided services to us last year and the Chamber also uses them for the Business Expo. It is a one-stop shop so we have the convenience of getting everything from them and they do the set-up and take-down of everything. I have attached a revised budget and the Expo Events Schedule. The subcommittee has not yet scheduled their next meeting.
