MEMORANDUM
TO: Energy City Commission
FROM: Rebecca Haug, Environmental Administrator
DATE: March 21, 2007
SUBJECT: April 21, 2007 Energy Expo Update
Chair Zehringer is still contacting area businesses (Dean's 4 Seasons, Home Depot and
Menards) to receive either a discount or free grand prizes.
As of February 27, 2007 we have received donations from 7 vendors. The Elk River
Star News and Sherburne County are Megawatt ($5,000) sponsors; Waste Management
and the Bank of Elk River are Kilowatt ($2,500) sponsors; Centerpoint Energy and
Riverview Community Bank are $250 sponsors; and Target gave us a $25 gift certificate.
Our request did not meet the criteria for a donation from Coborn's or First National
Bank.
A confirmation letter was sent out to all the speakers and moderators informing them
about what time they will be presenting or moderating. The letter also requested
information regarding the type of equipment they need and a bio for the moderator to
read. Ellen Telander, Recycling Association of Minnesota will be speaking on recycling.
Also, Mayor Klinzing will not be available at 10:00 am to talk about Energy City and
introduce Paul Douglas so we are hoping to get another council member to do that. I'll
keep you posted.
As of February 27, 2007, thirteen (I 3) exhibitors have signed up. Most are paying $ 100
to be an exhibitor and with that they will receive a table and electricity. We are not
charging the non-profits but they will still receive a table and electricity.
Staff decided to use Kay Reynolds, Vernon Company for purchasing promotional
materials. We are purchasing travel mugs made from 100% U.S. Corn Plastic for all the
speakers as well as t-shirts for all the staff and commissioners. We also ordered some
memo boards with energy saving tips and the logo.
Memo boards have arrived and the mugs and t-shirts are on order.
