SR 06-03-1996.~ty of **ITEM 5.2. ** 'vet FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: MEMORANDUM Mayor and City Council Sandra Thackeray, City Clerk June 3, 1996 Adoption of Bereavement Policy At the May 20, 1996, City Council meeting, the Council directed staff to draft a bereavement policy for the city. The attached policy addresses the concern of acknowledging the death of a city employee or a family member of a city employee. The policy authorizes the City of Elk River to acknowledge the death of an employee or employee's family member by offering a $25 token in the form of memorial, flowers or cash. The policy also directs the City Clerk to inform City Council and employees of the death if this is the wish of the employee. The $25.00 can be used for flowers, cash or memorial. City employee shall include an employee of any department of the city and whose wage is paid by the City of Elk River. 3. Immediate family shall include spouse, children, parents and brothers and sisters. Upon the death of an employee or an employee's immediate family member, the employee should notify the City Clerk.
