Release of Funds for Elk River Area
Arts Council
The 1996 Recreation Department budget includes $6,000 for cultural
activities. Of this, $5,000 is earmarked for the Elk River Area Arts Council.
This contribution is consistent with past years in which the city has provided
matching funds to the Arts Council.
Attached is a letter from David Beauvais, coordinator for the Arts Council,
requesting release of the city's matching funds. The Arts Council indicates
that it has raised $6,248.
Action Requested
The City Council is asked to consider releasing $5,000 in matching funds to
the Elk River Area Arts Council.

Dear Pat,
Since the first of January, the Elk River Area Arts Council has
raised over $5,000 needed for the release of the matching funds of
$5,000 that you have budgeted for us in 1996.
Enclosed is a summary of the monies that apply to this local match.
If desired, I will supply a printout from our computer accounting
program which reflects the total action of our bank account.
If the City would release the budgeted funds at this time, these
funds will help us with our summer Strings for Youth Program, the
Arts in the Park concerts, A Day in the Life of Elk River photo
shoot, and participation in the Heritage Festival.
We hope that Elk River will continue to provide funding for our
programs in 1997. Please advise me of the appropriate time to
approach the City Council with our request.
