• YMCA project: RJM Construction has broken ground on the YMCA project with an
anticipated completion date of October of 2008.
• Library project: Grand opening is scheduled for October 13, 2007. A symbolic book
passing event will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday October 6. Commissioners are
encouraged to show up along the route and help pass some books to the new library.
• The 5 year Parks CIP was reviewed by the City Council in September. The
subsequent newspaper article received quite a bit of attention. Staff wishes to clarify
that the projects listed in the CIP are not a finalized schedule, nor are there sufficient
funds available to build these projects due the downturn in the housing market. The
5 year CIP is a planning document that attempts to balance spending based on
projected fee revenue.
• Ice Arena Lobby: Based on an Ice Arena Commission recommendation the City
Council has directed staff to explore options for expanding the Ice Arena Lobby.
The primary goal of this project would be to improve crowd circulation, create a
seating area for the concession stand and to address fire code issues related to room
capacity. Staff will present the potential concepts at the October 10, Park
Commission meeting.
