eating was called to order at 7:U~' p.m.
Lion Horvath presented proposals in response to our request for
suggestions on how to light the ^utside sign. A photoelectric
fi:<ture was investigated and found to be not vandal resistant
and of too low wattage far our requirements. A direct light would
need to be raised on a post and would be difficult to aim. Two
proposals were presented which would utilize an 8' fluorescent
bul b or bulbs. The fir st proposal wo~_~i d req!~ire boring under the
driveway and was estimated to cost f~1i6~. The second world require
that the fluorescent strip be hidden under carpenter"s WOOd casing
and would cost ~bY~, not including the carpenter's fee. Both of
these would be connected tv the present timing system and would
come on automatically when the outside lights came on. Due to
the large volume of business on the agenda, our decision on this
was tabled until our ne;:t meeting.
F'at introduced Zack: ~~ohnson from E05 Architecture whom ale requested
attend this meeting to help us determine the nest steps in our
proposed new yr e:<panded facility. Zac4:: e:,plained how a work:
program would be set up and how we would need to wor4:: on establishing
a space allocation program and site selection, as well as the
financial and time requirements and limitations for a library.
He described the four Phases: 1) F'ragramming; 2l Site Selection;
3) Establish Estimates of Probable Development Costs; and, 4) Estab-
lish Schedule of Development Activities. He also discussed other
fees incidental to such a project and provided us with a list of
such fees.
Verne volunteered that much of this information was already
contained in the Draft Building Program which he prepared in
March, 199~r. Zack: was provided a copy of this Draft and agreed
that much of the information would be valuable and would save
__ ~r4:: time. After discussion, Daryl moved to retain the services
of Zac4:: •7ohnson and EO5 Hr chitecture, using monies in the Reserve
Fund, to work: with the Board, as well as the staff, to prepare
a report which would be presented to the City Council to apprise
them of our needs and proposals to meet those needs. 4~:en seconded

We again discussed the wal4way in the entrance. We wondered if
the installation of the rubber the would cause water and slush
buildup which would be another problem with tracking into the
main part. Vicki suggested that maybe replacing the strip
of carpet periodically would be a mare practical and economic

We discussed purchasing a fa:; machine. When the quoted price
seemed high, Daryl offerred to check: prices of a system and

The sprinkler system is malfunctioning and the City will check

The Midwest Federation of Librar•,r Associations Conference will be
held October 3-? - Plovember ? at the Hyatt in Minneapolis and
