The 2007 budget contains line items to replace three pick-up trucks and add one pick-up
truck for the additional water operator. From experience, we try to replace pick-ups on a
ten year or 100,000 miles basis. After 100,000 miles of stop and go city driving, they are
pretty well used up. In an effort to get as much life out of our vehicles, we move the
vehicles from higher mileage jobs to lower mileage jobs as they get older.
This year we are proposing to retire and sell the following:
Unit #1 1997 Ranger with approximately 95,000 miles
Unit #3 1997 Chevrolet 4x4 with approximately 97,000 miles
Unit #14 1997 Chevrolet 4x4 with approximately 105,000 miles
Elk River Ford has the State bid on Ford and Dodge trucks. This year we recommend the
'/2 ton 4x4. I drive a Ranger pick-up 4x4 and it probably gets the most miles and gets the
least miles per gallon. I only need a 4x4 with four doors and not necessarily apick-up.
Attached are the specifications and price sheets for the following vehicles.
Ford F-150 4x4 $16,772.50/ea.
Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 $19,007.00/ea.
Jeep Compass 4x4 $18,787.00/ea.
For trucks to utilize E-85 fuel, the next larger engine is required at an additional
approximate $700. The Jeep Compass gets far better mileage than the pick-ups.
Staff recommends authorization be given to sell the three 1997 pick-ups and purchase
three Ford F150 4x4's and one Jeep Compass.
