Action Requested
Council motion adopting resolution acknowledging contributions for the Energy Expo to be held on
April 18, 2009 at the Gold LEED certified Twin Lakes Elementary School.
Background/Discussion
In 2007, the first Energy Expo was offered at Twin Lakes Elementary School and had over 700 people
attend the event. The City of Elk River, Energy City Commission held the 2008 Energy Expo at the City
Hall Campus and had approximately 800 people in attendance. The third Energy Expo will be held on
Apri118, 2009 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Twin Lakes Elementary School once again. The following items
will be a part of the day's program:
• Keynote speaker, Joe Shuster, author of Beyond Fo.r~il Fools:• The Boadmap to Energy Independence by
2b40 will speak following the Mayor's Welcome Address
• Energy Innovations Contest displays by Spectrum High School students and award presentation
• Presentation of Energy Enny's short film contest finalists by Spectrum High School students and
award presentation
• Exhibitors regarding sustainable and renewable energy technologies, including hybrid vehicles
• "Project Conserve" participants' experiences
• Guided bus tours of Energy Ciry demonstration sites at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (lasting approximately
1.5 - 2 hours)
• Performances by Tricia and the Toonies at 11:00 a.m. and CLIMB Theatre at 1:00 p.m.
• Display of Coloring Contest Finalists and presentation of first place winners
• Catering by the Elk River Lion's Club
• Grand prize drawings for (3) $500 gift certificates toward Energy Star Appliances at the close of
the day
Financial Impact
To provide this event to the public free of charge, sponsors have been solicited. The City Council is asked
to accept the pledged donations from the following companies for the Energy Expo:

RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE
CITY OF ELK RIVER
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River is grateful to all civic groups, organizations, and
individuals for their contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River received donations in the year 2009 from various
individuals and organizations as itemized on Exhibit A, attached hereto.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River
that the donations on the attached Exhibit A are accepted in accordance with the terms
prescribed by the donors.
