Action Requested
Approve the promotion of Matt Stevens to the position of lead wastewater operator effective May 19,
2009. Mr. Stevens will be paid at step D of pay grade 7. He will be eligible for any cost of living
adjustment given to regular city employees on January 1, 2010 and a step increase on July 1, 2010.
Background/Discussion
The lead wastewater operator position has been vacant since last summer. Two of the division's
operators are qualified for and interested in the lead position. Public Works Director Terry Maurer, Chief
Operator Gary Leirmoe, and I met with and interviewed each of the interested operators. After thorough
consideration, we recommend Matt Stevens for the lead operator position.
Mr. Stevens came to the City with prior experience from the City of Long Prairie. He has been with the
City of Elk River since January of 2005.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
