Staff is currently prioritizing, designing, and planning for the remaining 2009 electric capital
projects. In March, the Commission approved 5 capital projects and directed staff to submit for
approval. The Commission then directed staff to submit the subsequent projects for approval
later in the year. Attached for reference is the 2009 Electrical Distribution Capital Projects list
for the approved 2009 budget.
The 5 electric capital projects approved in March and there budgeted costs are:
1) $250,000 CO RD 1 Feeder -Needed to facilitate 2010 territory acquisition
2) $100,000 HWY 101 & CO RD 39 Feeder -Loop Water Front East
3) $ 50,000 193~d Rebuild -Facilitate road project
4) $100,000 191 ~/2 Ave (off Jackson) -Rebuild aging underground distribution
5) $ 55,000 '~ Twin Lakes 2"d -new development
* part of $150,000 budgeted for new development
The next 5 prioritized electric capital projects submitted for Commission Approval are:
6) $ 70,000 Simonet Drive -Rebuild and convert to 7200 volt
7) $ 70,000 Xenia (off US HWY 10) -Rebuild and convert to 7200 volt
8) $ 35,000 Rebuild and loop Cretex Plant on US HWY 10
9) $ 80,000 Cable replace Area 21 (South of CO RD 33, Yorl< & Watson)
10) $ 80,000 Rebuild taps in Area 23 (CO RD 13 & CO RD 70)
At the June 9~' Commission meeting, staff brought the need to purchase an electrical distribution
pad mounted dead-front switch that had not been budgeted for. The Commission approved the
expense up to $25,000 with the contingency that staff brings back a plan on where the switch
would be funded. The switch quote came back higher than anticipated at $28,800 (refer to
attached quotes) and therefore has not been ordered. This switch would become the spare if the
2 switches currently in inventory are used for the Simonet and Xenia projects. Because the bids
contracted work for these two projects came in very low (refer to agenda items 5.1 and 5.2), it is
proposed that the $28,800 cost for this switch be split between the two projects capital budgeted
amount.
