block, electric usage is up 6.55%. Year to date, water usage is up 2.38%. Comparing a rolling
year block to a previous year block, water usage is up 3.42%.
This August 24t~'-26`", Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association will hold their annual summer
conference. I plan to attend if the Commission doesn't disapprove. The program is attached for
Commission review. In the past, Commissioners have attended this conference as well. This
conference was budgeted for 2 staff and 1 Commissioner.

MMUA's 77th Annual Summer Meeting will
be held at Breezy Point Resort in Breezy
Point, Minnesota. The same format will be

followed as last year: the annual bike ride
as well as the golf tournament will take
place on Monday afternoon. You will have
the option of coming to the resort early
to play golf or take a bike ride on the Paul
Bunyan Trail. We will finish the day with an
outdoorbarbeque.
Please take time to review all of the infor-
mation in this brochure. It contains every-
thingyou need to register with MMUA and
Breezy Point Resort for the meeting and all
of the activities.
We have a full slate of interesting speakers
lined up for all dayTuesdayand Wednes-
daymorning. Please refer to the program
for topics and speaker information. There
will be a two-hour trade show in conjunc-
tion with a reception prior to the start of
the banquet on Tuesday evening.

Come join us for MMUA's Annual Bike Ride
led by Scott Dietz of Alexandria. The ride will
take place on the black-topped Paul Bunyan
Trail. Bikes & helmets will be available for you
to rent, or bring your own. The bike shop is
located in Nisswa next to the trail. It will bean
afternoon of fun and beautiful northern Min-
nesota scenery.

We are working with the vendor of the "eco-envelopes" to develop a statement layout
that would work effectively. It involves some adjustment of the current layout to allow
for the tear off coupon to be at the bottom of the statement and the customer mailing
address at the top. Although the eco-envelope is a more expensive envelope, there is a
slight cost savings associated with these envelopes since we will be purchasing one
envelope instead of two, and it seems like the right thing to do.
We had 88 shutoffs on Monday, July 6. To date, there are still 19 customers off.
There are two Reports due this month: Federal EIA-860 Energy report and Minnesota
Electric Utility report. The EIA-860 reports electric generation information and is filed
with information on our plant engines for standby generation. The Minnesota Electric
Utility report is filed with information on our kwh and dollar sales in Minnesota counties
and breaks down the type of customers served (residential all-electric, residential electric,
commercial, etc.)

The following is a summary of projects and/or updates over the past several weeks:
1. Started the 191 '/2 Avenue rebuild.
2. Continued working on County Road 1. Had to have additional boring done because of
other utilities in the way - 2200 ft. of SOOmcm and 900 ft. of 4/0.
3. The Gasboy is up and running. This will be used to monitor fuel usage and keep track of
the maintenance.
4. Simonet Drive rebuild bids are in.
5. Xenia Avenue and Tipton Avenue rebuild bids are in.
6. Continued working on 193`d road job.

The following is a summary of projects and/or updates over the past several weeks:
I had a chance to attend a manager's training put on by MMUA in Alexandria on June
25t1i. I learned a great deal on such topics as: influencing behavior in the workplace, how
to lead our staff, attitudes, communications, etc.
The locating department had a total of 310 locate tickets for June. Some of
them were meets which required several trips back to the same area as
needed to mark utilities.
2. The Metering Department continues with weekly and monthly substation
checks, changing out meters to the radio read meters, and doing the
monthly power bill.
The Security Systems Department had a total of 64 phone contacts, 12
personal visits, 13 systems quoted, 10 sales, 14 installs and 26 service
calls for the month of June. There had been some burglaries in three
different areas in Elk River this past month which may have triggered this
flurry of activity. An exceptional month for the Security Department!
4. Mapbooks continue to be updated daily as crews add or make changes in
them.
5. Power Plant staff has performed the monthly run of the generators and
everything looked good. Steve Ziemer is in the process of developing a
preventative maintenance procedure for engine jacket cooling water
pressure and temperature alarm trips on the diesel engines based on OEM
maintenance instructions to verify satisfactory operation of safety devices.

My name is William Wimmer and I am a pharmacist at Goodrich Pharmacy in Elk
River. On the morning of Saturday the 13`h upon opening the pharmacy in the Riverway
clinic building the alarm system malfunction and the alarms went off. I was able to
contact the dispatch people and luckily the police did not have to come out. Your
technician Rick who must be the person to be on call was able to get here in about a half
hour. With the alarms going off it was driving me and the patients nuts. Rick got here
as soon as he could and replaced my alarm panel. I am very grateful for his help on a
Saturday morning and appreciate the service of your company after hours. Thanks again
from a happy customer.
