SUBJECT: Manufacturers Week
Manufacturers Week is designed to showcase Minnesota's manufacturing
industries and to increase the general public's awareness of manufacturing's
importance in providing high wage, high skill jobs for our communities. One
out of every five jobs in the State of Minnesota is in manufacturing, which is
an industry that also produces 21 percent of Minnesota's total economic
output. Also, five out of the top ten fastest growing industries in this state in
terms of employment growth were in manufacturing. This sector has long
been targeted by the City of Elk River to foster economic development and
growth. It has long been understood that because of manufacturing's
diversified employment structure, it is much more immune to national
recessions than many other industries.
The Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce is planning an event to celebrate
Minnesota Manufacturers Week on Tuesday, October 15, 1996, at 11 a.m.
with a tour of Alltool, followed by lunch beginning at noon at the Elk River
Country Club. Mayor/Councilmembers and respective commissions are all
encouraged to attend this event to help acknowledge the positive effect of the
manufacturing sector in providing jobs and tax base in the City of Elk River,
and the State of Minnesota.

PROCLAMATION
Minnesota Manufacturers Week
City of Elk River, Minnesota
WHEREAS,
Manufacturing has the largest total payroll of any business
sector in Minnesota, providing $14.3 billion in wages with $45
million being generated in Sherburne County; and,
WHEREAS,
Manufacturing produces $22.9 billion for the state economy and
is the largest single share (21 percent) of our gross product;
and,
WHEREAS,
Manufactured exports brought $8.2 billion into the Minnesota
economy in 1995; and,
WHEREAS,
Manufacturing provides high skill, high wage jobs which
significantly contribute to Minnesota's high standard of living
and economic vitality; and,
WHEREAS,
Manufacturing contributed nearly $145 million in corporate
income taxes in Minnesota, more than any other sector and
almost 30 percent of total corporate income taxes.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Henry Duitsman, Mayor of the City of Elk River,
Minnesota, do hereby proclaim the week of October 14-18, 1996, to be
CITY OF ELK RIVER, MINNESOTA MANUFACTURERS WEEK
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of
the City of Elk River, Minnesota to be affLxed at the City Office this seventh day
