The most recent meeting was held July 15, 2009. Staff continues to attend the monthly meetings as city liaison. S:\EDA\HRA\AGENDA\Yeaz2009\8.3.09 downtown update.doc RiverEdge Meeting Minutes June 10, 2009 The meeting was held at Edward Jones and was called to order at 8AM. Present were Jim, Wendy, Roger, Tony, Sandi, Annie, Stephanie Albin, Debbie Rydberg. There is $2,685.54 in the treasury. The minutes were not sent out from the May 13 meeting. They will be emailed out. City Update from Stephanie: Lamont Cranston brought close to 1,500 people downtown. Boats were anchored close to the park. The port-a-potty in Rivers Edge Commons park has been wrapped with vinyl to blend in with the mural. ArtSoup Wendy: ArtSoup will be held downtown on Saturday, June 20, 2009. All of the day's activities will be posted on the Arts Alliance Website (www.elkriverart.org). The Lions are sponsoring an ArtSoup Medallion hunt. Jackson Ave will be closed the day of the event. Art Booths will be set up on the street along with a demonstration by a metal smith and a Chalk Artist will be doing a large picture in the street. There will be a tent in the King Ave Lot right behind the Arts Alliance and the O'Reilly building. There will be Art on display in the Tent, the Arts Alliance Gallery and a juried art show in the O'Reilly Building. There will be another tent by the River behind First National Bank where Community Ed and the Arts Alliance will be having classes for people to participate in. Food Vendors will be set up by the River at the bottom of the Park Area. New Business: Classic Car Show Downtown July 30. Suggestion was made to offer prizes for the Classic Cars. Visitors could vote on the cars: Biggest wheels, Drove farthest, Women's Choice. We could register the cars and give them numbers as they pulled in. Cars can start coming in as early as noon. The cars typically park in First National's lot by the River closest to the park. As more cars come later park in First National's lot further down after they close and at Dare's if there is not a funeral. We will need to coordinate with Jeff from Daddy'os and Fred. American Family Insurance (Bonnie Kosta) is moving in Downtown. First National Bank is moving their Bank into their First National Financial Building across the street. There will be full service tellers inside. The Safety Deposit Boxes will be moved across the street also. Drive through banking will be available at their Bank on Freeport. Their current site on the river will be available for sale/redevelopment. Swing into Downtown Elk River: July 23rd the Roseville Community Band will be playing in RiversEdge Commons Park. They play Benny Goodman type music. Sandi has offered to teach swing dancing 1 hour prior to the concert in the lower parking lot by the stage. City Staff will provide sound and help out with the logistics. Annie and Stephanie will make posters. There will be an Honor Guard presenting the colors at the concert and there will be reserved seating for VFW, American Legion, Elk River Police and Fire Department. The meeting was adjourned at gam. Next Meeting will be at changed to 8AM July 15 at McCoys RiverEdge Meeting Minutes Wednesday ~ 13, 2009 The meeting was held at McCoy's Pub and was called to order at 8AM. Present were Fred, Jim, Wendy, Roger, Tony, Sandi, Annie, Stephanie Albin. There is $2,943.66 in the treasury as of today. The minutes from the April 8th meeting were approved as written. City Update from Annie: The roof is being repaired on the Arts Alliance Building. The Current will put our information into the newsletter that goes out quarterly. We need to get them the information by May 17th. The Bluffs has closed their office on the main level because the Bank that owns them is again trying to sell the building as a whole. Banners are being put up on highway 10 light poles. For ArtSoup Banners the Arts Alliance will need to talk to Terry Mauer. The Fast Study is looking at land use around the Commuter train station area and will be looking at how to zone the land in that area. When the study is complete (staff anticipates it will be early June) ,the Downtown Redevelopment committee may start meeting again. Stephanie Albin from ER Park and Rec will be coming to RiversEdge meetings to keep us updated on what is happening with the Downtown Concert Series and other Park activities. There will be a Riverfront Jam concert held downtown in conjunction with the MNSES Bike Race that is being held at Hillside Bike Park. The Concert will be held on July 25th with Big Walter headlining at 7PM. Sponsorships are available for the concert. There is an opportunity for all downtown businesses to go together and have booths and tables set up at the concert as the Banks are not sponsoring this event. The bike race will be held on July 26th. 300 to 500 racers are expected for that race. Riverfront Concert Series is starting June 4ch with Lamont Cranston. Sandi suggested that we have swing dance lessons (she could teach them) at the park prior to an appropriate concert. Businesses are encouraged to have sidewalk sales on Thursday nights before the concerts and stay open on those nights. There will be a classic car show on July 30tH downtown. Chalk it Up lunch concerts will be held downtown the 2°d Wednesday of each month at Rivers Edge Commons Park. The first one will be June 12tH Kidstock will be held at Lions Park on Thursdays during the day. There is a group looking at filming an Indie Film downtown Elk River at McCoy's. Discussion was held as to scheduling Halloween Activities downtown this year. Halloween falls on a Saturday. We decided to schedule downtown trick or treating and the scream contest for Friday, October 30th. Stephanie said that they can share with us the hay bales and pumpkins that they use for their Halloween Activity held at Lions park the Saturday before Halloween (Oct 24th). We need to let her know what we need. We can look into scheduling a movie in the park that night. License Fees run from $275- $500 depending on the movie. Discussion was also held to discuss when to have the Downtown Holiday Open House with Santa. The date chosen for this event was Saturday, December 12th. We need to let Stephanie know for sure by the end of May so she can get the information into the park guide. Flowers downtown: we voted to give Meryl $200 to purchase roses for the planters. Wendy will talk to her about getting people to help her get things planted so all looks great by ArtSoup. ArtSoup is being held downtown on June 20th. Lots of activities are planned. Jackson Ave will be closed and artists will have booths set up. There will be street chalk art painting, a family activities tent set up by the bottom of the park. Music, Dance, Theater, Puppet show held on the stage. Stage will have a performance every hour plus performances in the activities tent (go to www.elkriverart.or~ for event schedule and more information closer to the event). There will be a Members Art Show in the Gallery, a Juried Art Show in the O'Reilly Building and a Schroeder Studio Art Tent in the parking lot behind the Arts Alliance Gallery. You can place an Ad in the program or just donate to the arts alliance to help support this event.
