Call Meeting To Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Elk River Parks and
Recreation Commission was called to order at 6:31 p.m. by Chair Anderson.

MOVED BY COMMISSIONER PETERSON AND SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER NYSTROM TO APPROVE THE JULY 8, 2009 PARKS &
RECREATION COMMISSION AGENDA. MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
Consider Minutes of June 10, 2009 Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting
MOVED BY COMMISSIONER NIZIOLEK AND SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER PETERSON TO APPROVE THE JUNE 10, 2009
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES.
MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
4. Parks & Recreation Commissioner to Attend July 14 and August 11, 2009 Planning_
Commission Meetings and Tuly 20, 2009 City Council 1\leeting
4.1. July 14, 2009 Planning Commission Meeting
Commissioner Larson will attend the July 14, 2009 Planning Commission
Meeting.
4.2. Ju1~20, 2009 City Council Meeting
Commissioner Larson will attend the July 20, 2009 City Council Meeting.

4.3. August 11, 2009 Planning Commission Meeting
Commissioner Boese will attend the August 11, 2009 Planning Commission
Meeting.

6. Recreation Manager's Report -Steve Benoit
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit shared that summer programs kicked off with the
annual Bike Rodeo and Safety Camp. The Summer Playground Adventure and
Sports Camps are all off to a great start.
Mr. Benoit shared the Senior Center Coordinator's.
Director's Report -Bill Maertz
Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared an update on the Lions Park
Facility Use Policy and the Great Northern Trail progress.
Mr. Maertz shared that the Elk River School District is repaving the Meadowvale
Elementary school parking lot and was looking for feedback from the
commissioners regarding them adding and realigning some trails.
Commissioner Niziolek stated his concern regarding the potential steepness of a
trail on the northeast end of the school and suggested putting further north near the
fence.
MOVED BY COMMISSIONER NIZIOLEK AND SECONDED BY
COMMISSIONER NYSTROM TO RECOMMEND TO THE ELK RIVER
SCHOOL DISTRICT TO MODIFY THE TRAIL CONNECTION ON
THE NORTHEAST SIDE OF MEADOWVALE AND PRESERVE THE
SOUTHERN TRIANGLE OR PRAIRIE GRASS. MOTION CARRIED 6-0.
Mr. Maertz also shared that "Elk River Bound",anew cable TV show, which
highlights Elk River Parks and Recreation programs and facilities will be playing at
various times.
8. Action/Discussion Items
8.1.A. Adopt-a-Park Program Update
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit shared an update on the Adopt-a-Park Program
and which parks were currently adopted.

Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit recognized John Jones as this month's Volunteer
of the month. John volunteers lus time helping with the Senior Golf League and
instructing the Youth Golf program.
9.2. Community Events
Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit showcased the Bike Rodeo and Safety Camp in a
power point presentation.
9.3. Park Highlights
Planner/Parks Planner, Chris Leeseberg showcased the Lions Park in a power point
presentation.
