The Elk River Fire Department is planning on hosting an Open House and Street Dance

The Open House will be the same format as previous years, demonstrations of Rescue
Tools, Fire Suppression Equipment, Fire Trucks, the North Suburban Mutual Aid "Smoke
House", antique fire truck rides, etc. This has always been a good public relations tool for
the fire department. The Open House is tentatively scheduled for 1:00 PM • 5:00 PM.
Pop and popcorn wilt be given away during the open house.
The VFW will host a Bingo game in the north apparatus floor from approximately 3:00
PM until 7:00 Pm to carry us through until the dance.
The street dance will begin at approximately 7:30 until approximately 11:30 (these times
are approximate as we are having another committee meeting on Thursday night, b(1 S/95)
• more concrete information will be available at the council meeting.
The Lions Club will be selling beer and setups after 4:00 PM, we have had contact with
Lori Johnson, Pat Klaers, Tom 7,erwas, etc. The i,ions Club will be coming to the council
for a liquor ticense for this event.
The evening will consist of entertainment by John Wirtz, dba "Spectrum Sound". He is a
DJ who will be running the dance. Doug Manthie, dba "Those Porkchops" will be present
at the event selling porkchops, as well as the VFW selling Hamburgers.
For the safety of the patrons at this dance, we are requesting that 4th Street be closed
between Jackson Avenue and King Street after 5:00 PM Saturday, September 9, 1995.
There will be slot of people moving around that area of the fire station, as the south bays
of the fire station is where the DJ and dance will be.
In May, the Open House/Street Dance committee met with Pat Klaers, Lori Johnson,
Sandy Thackery, Tom Zerwas, and others from the city to discuss this event. A
representative from the street department was there, and he suggested that the Fire
Department provide 3 "CLASS 3, LIGHTED BARRICADES" at each end of 4th street as
well as 1 "ROAD CLOSED" sign at each end. We will also provide 3 Portable Toilets as
well as 1 Handicap Portable Toilet for the patrons use.
