SUBJECT: Consider Proclamation for Special
Olympics Day
The Mayor has been requested to adopt a proclamation proclaiming July 8,
1995, as Minnesota Special Olympics Day in the City of Elk River. The
Minnesota Special Olympics will be holding a Softball Tournament on July 8,
1995, at the Junior High Ball Fields.
• ACTION REQUESTED
Council motion adopting the attached proclamation which proclaims July 8,
1995, as Minnesota Special Olympics Day in Elk River.

PROCLAMATION
Minnesota Special Olympics Day
July 8, 1995
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Special Olympics Annual Softball Tournament will be held on
Saturday, July 8, 1995 at the Junior High Badl Fields in Elk River; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary have
sponsored the tournament for ISyears; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Special Olympics allow the athletes to experience the excitement
of competition, continued personal achievement, and recognition of their
abilities; and
• WHEREAS, these softball games provide the citizens of Minnesota with ¢n opportunity to
witness the drive, energy, potentl¢l, and capabilities of people with mental
retardation; and
WHEREAS, the dives of everyone involved including the athletes, coaches, volunteers, and
spectators are enriched;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Henry A. Duitsman, Mayor of the City of
Elk River, hereby proclaim Saturday, July 8, 1995 as
MINNESOTA SPECIAL OLYMPICS DAY
in Elk River
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Elk River citizens are encouraged to attend the
'"innesota Special Olympics softball games on July 8, 1995, ¢t the Junior
:gh Ball Fields.
