Joint Powers Agreement The City of Elk River has signed new Agreement. Hassan Township has submitted a letter stating their intention to withdraw effective December 31, 2001. The School District has not discussed further. The City of Otsego has submitted changes they would like to see made to the document. The City of Rogers has not signed yet but doesn't see a problem. This will come back in May to discuss further. b. 2000 Annual Report Staff Reports/Informational Updates - report enclosed a. Community Recreation Deficit from 1991-1999 b. Summer Programming o Community Reports a. Elk River - Pat Klaers shared that the Lions' Club has submitted a proposal to build an addition in Lions' Park to the existing shelter. This addition would include an office for the Lions, a large community room, as well as potential office space for Community Recreation. The conditional use permit is in process. b. Hassan Township - none. c. Otsego - Lions' Club in Elk River, Rogers and Albertville are donating money to the Guardian Angels. d. Rogers - They are improving fields at the elementary and working with the District for spending park money on school/park improvements. e. ISD 728 - Working on high school in Rogers. Community Education is working with Arts Alliance on their Family Center. This project is an addition to the existing shelter, which will include a community room, offices for Community Recreation, and an office for the Lions. If all goes well, the facility will be complete and ready to occupy this fall. mb from the desk of... Michele Bergh Manager 50 Main Street NW Elk River, MN 55330 763/274-1840 Fax: 763/274-1842 Michele Bergh Staff Report May 2001 Summer Programming and Staff We have received many compliments on our summer schedule and have several full classes. As of May 8th, we have taken 894 registrations. About half of this is for t-ball classes. The registrations are pretty well distributed amongst the various classes offered. Some of our pee wee classes, our tennis classes, and our gymnastics classes are full. I am continuing to work on staffing for the summer. I don't anticipate needing to hire many new staff members this year. Computers/Technology We are experiencing some problems with our computers. We currently have 4 people accessing the registration software and have found this bogs the system and slows down everyone's computers. We are working on adding memory to the computers and have cut down to having two people taking registrations at a time. We have a limited amount of money available in the budget and will be using it to upgrade what we have as much as possible to help with this problem. We are really happy with the software and find that it works well with our needs otherwise. Field Reservations We become quite overwhelmed for a couple of weeks every year with field reservations and, once the initial schedule is complete, things become much more manageable. This year was a slightly bigger struggle with the late winter. People were very anxious to get out and start practicing and we asked them not to use the fields to give them time to heal after the long winter. Unfortunately, many of the coaches do not respect this request and a few of the fields were tore up. All Girls Softball and TRSA reservations have been taken care of for the season. The second half of the season needs to be scheduled yet for Youth Baseball practices. This will be done in a couple of weeks.
