Box 430 Elk River, MN 55330-0430 January 5, 2010 To: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission John Dietz Jerry Gumphrey Daryl Thompson From: Troy Adams Subject: Staff Updates -Director of Operations Phone: 763.441.2020 Fax: 763.441.8099 Staff will be undergoing Employee Performance Evaluations in the first part of the year. Previously the Utilities hired the consulting firm of Riley, Dettmann & Kelsey to review ERMU's job descriptions and provide a Job Evaluation System. Management is currently updating the Job Descriptions based on the Job Description Questionnaires and Job Evaluation System that Riley, Dettmann & Kelsey had submitted to the Commission. These revised job descriptions will be distributed to staff during the upcoming evaluations. This will give an opportunity for communication of expectations. Next month staff will be presenting the Utilities 2009 Annual Report to the Commission. In early March, the City/L7tilities will be presenting the 2009 Annual Report to the City Council. In January, the Utilities will. be joining the City in mandatory sexual harassment training. This training will be conducted by Anoka Technical College who is currently providing the City's safety training. Enclosed for your reading is the current issue of the MMUA Resource. The negative issues this past month were complaints of the glue not sealing, and we had the post office destroy a few pieces of mail when they jammed in their machines. We are continuing to monitor this. We completed our inventory counts of the water and electric departments at the end of December. They went well and we have already noticed improved streamlining of the process over last year. An auditor from Abdo, Eick, and Meyers was onsite for a few hours to observe the process and perform some test counts of his own. Focusing on the audit and researching credit card implementation will keep me busy for the next few months. Staff will be having the rescheduled Customer Service Training on January 13`h and Harassment Training with the City on January 14`x'.
