Subject: Antenna Inspections
David,
Here is a breakdown of what KLM typically provides during an antenna inspection,
1) Drawing review: KLM reviews the lease's drawings to ensure the installation has
a minimum impact on the tower. We review the site location, tower penetrations,
routing, brackets, weld detail, painting instructions and antenna location. We also
request a structural review of the installation and an engineer to sign off on the
final set of construction drawings.
2) Shop inspection: KLM generally performs 3-4 trips at a local paint shop. The
majority of the items are shop painted. This will minimize the field painting and
over-blast from blasting in the field.
3) Weld inspection: KLM usually recommends permanent welded brackets (seal
welded), this will prevent unwanted rusting that comes from clamps and bolted
connections. We will allow clamps on some of the cable routs but only with a
rubber barrier between the clamp and the tower. Generally this takes 1-3 field
trips
4) Field Painting: Field painting is the hardest to estimate, I generally cannot even
estimate until I see the first plan review. The amount of field painting trips vary
from 4-12 trips.
Like I said there is an FCC act of 97 that has language that allows the owner to have
review and inspection to protect your investment (tower). KLM typically provides a
proposal for the above mentioned items and we suggest the city add some more $ for
the work you will need attending meetings, opening towers lawyers review of the lease
agreements ect...
Lastly KLM can look over the lease agreement and provide some input on what
language should be included in regards to when the tower is reconditioned and
maintenance.
