5.6. SR 07-09-2001TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: MEMORANDUM Mayor and City Council Gary Leirmoe, Chief Operator ~f~/VTP July 9, 2001 EPA Regional Award Item # 5.6. It is my pleasure to inform you that the City of Elk River Wastewater Treatment Facility has been selected to receive an U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 award for operation and maintenance. We have been selected as the fzrst place winner for our category, which is Medium (size), Secondary (treatment). Our region consists of Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan. The award singles out the City of Elk River Wastewater Facility as the Top Facility of our size and mode of treatment in the six state region. Only one city in each category gets the award each year. So you can tell by the size and population of our region that this is a very prestigious award and not too many Minnesota cities have received this award. A representative from the EPA will be at City Hall on August 9, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. to present the award and plaque to the city. I am hopeful that the Mayor can be present to accept the award for the City of Elk River. Also, we are still in the running, along with other facilities, for a national award. (As an aside, the City of Big Lake also received a region 5 award.)
