Staff requests Council approval of closing the en~.•ance to the old liquor store site from Main Street,

The Council has approved the demolition of the old liquor store building and the conversion of the site
to vegetation with a storm water rain garden in the approximate location of the present building, For
public safety concerns, staff recommends closing the access onto Main Street during the demolition and
ne-grading of the site. Staff estimates the demolition and ne-grading project to be completed by May ~,
with consideration tal~en for weather and raad restrictions, After completion of this project, Z would
recommend leaving that access closed, which would allow the expansion of the right turn lane on west
bound Main Street.
The tentative demolition schedule is as follows:
March 22 -March 2G
The Reuse Centex, a recycling contractor, will remove the fluorescent lights, interior doors,
windows, furnaces, ait• conditioner and electric panel.
March 29 -~~A r
The street division will remove interior sheet rocl~, insulation, duct work, exterior sheet metal, metal
building frame, and recycle interio~.• piping.
The balance of the time will be needed for the street division and a local contraction to remove the
basement walls and footings, The stt•eet division will remove the blacktop parking lot and parking lot
lights. Sherburne County Soil and water Conservation Distt•ict staff have secured a grant for the design
and planting of a rain garden on this site. The City of Ells Riven will provide 35% of the project cost with
cash and an in-kind contribution for the grading and excavation.
