I received the soils map that you submitted for me to look at regarding future suitability for
• expansion of your biosolids landspreading facility. Although, I cannot make a formal
determination without a complete application, I do not see any obvious problems with this area.
It is likely that additional monitoring v~rells will be required when the city decides to utilize this
area for biosolids applications.

SUBJECT: Soil Borings on Cass Property
Soil borings to determine water table, mottled soil, and soil composition were
completed on the Cass property by Independent Testing on June 27, 1995.
The borings for the eight lots proposed indicated that there was 5+ feet from
the surface of the ground to mottling and/or water table, with the exception
of boring #8. It is my opinion that the proposed north seven parcels would be
suitable for building with at least an acre of property, a min;mum of three
feet above water table.. The eighth lot (the 14 acre parcel) could accommodate
a slab on grade home, unless it can be demonstrated that another design
works.
I recommend that potential buyers of these lots be provided with the attached
soil boring data. It will be up to the buyers of each of these lots to provide
the city with an additional soil boring and perc test at the time of building
permit application, to demonstrate a proper design for their septic system. I
recommend that homes built on these lots have their lowest floor a ;n;mum
of one foot above mottled soil and/or water table. The suitability of the type
of home proposed on a lot would be considered at the time of building permit
application.
Two soil samples were taken on the land we propose to dispose sludge on.
They were taken above the swamps on this property, but still in the low
areas. One boring showed three feet from water table and the other
approximately sixteen inches. Staff still feels there will be roughly twenty
acres of higher land adjacent to these borings that can be used for sludge
disposal, if a small wetland can be filled and mitigated.

Our work was performed for geotechnical purposes only and not to document the presence or extent of
arty contamination on the site. We can note that our crew did not detect any obvious contamination by
sight or smell during drilling operations. Sample #2 from boring B-6 was saved because of some black
staining. just above the water table. Contamination by pesticides or fertilizers in nearly impassible to
detect by sight or smell. If contamination is suspected, we recommend that further soil and water
sampling be conducted under the supervision of an experienced environmental consultant.
This report represents the result of our subsurface investigation and is based on information gathered at
specific locations. Subsurface conditions can change. a great deal over short horizontal distances. Also,
the actual interface between strata w~l likety be a gradual transition rather than an abrupt change as
represented on the boring logs. Geotechincal engineering is based extensively on opinion. Therefore,
the data contained in this report should be used as a guide, and we recommend that construction
monitoring be performed by a qualified geotechnical engineer or technician. Any changes in the
subsurface conditions from those found during this investigation should be brought to the attention of
the soils engineer.
