Proclamation for Dan Hinote Day
Dan Hinote, now a member of the Stanley Cup winning Colorado Avalanche of the
National Hockey League, is bringing the Stanley Cup for a public display at the Elk River Ice
Arena on Aug. 10. The Stanley Cup is the most popular trophy in sports. Apparently this is
Dan's way of thanking the community that taught him how to play hockey.
Rich Czech has indicated that the Cup will be on display from 4 pm to 7 pm. Dan Hinote
will be present, and a ceremony is planned with the Mayor presenting him with the attached
proclamation and a "key to the City."
ACTION REQUESTED
Council motion adopting the attached proclamation.

PROCLAMATION
DAN HINOTE DAY
AUGUST I0, 2001
WHEREAS, Dan Hinote played for the Elk River High School hockey team from 1993-1995 and
scored Elk River's first High School State Tournament goal in 1993; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, during his senior year Dan was one of the top scorers in the State and he
earned a silver medal while playing on the 17 Junior Olympic Team in Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Dan was a top team scorer for West Point during his freshman year; and
WHEREAS, in 1996 Dan was drafted in the 7th round by the Colorado Avalanche which is
considered an elite N.H.L. team; and
WHEREAS, during the 1997-1998 season Dan was voted the most valuable teammate on the
Oshawa Generals Junior Team in Ontario, Canada; and
WHEREAS, from 1998-1999 while playing with the Hershey Bears, Dan scored the most points
in the playoffs and was voted the most valuable player; and
WHEREAS,
during 1999-2000 Dan attended the Avalanche training camp, started the season
with the team playing a total of 27 games for the Avalanche and was voted to play in
the A.H.L. All Star game; and
WHEREAS,
during the 2000-2001 season Dan earned a spot on the Avalanche's fourth line
playing Center and was one of the impact players winning N.H.L.'s most honored
prize, the Stanley Cup.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that on August 10, Dan Hinote brought the Stanley
Cup to the Elk River Arena where he started his career to share with the citizens of
Elk River.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that I, Mayor Stephanie A. Klinzing,
hereby proclaim: August 10, 2001, as Dan Hinote Day.
