SUBJECT: Proclamation for Manufacturer's Week
In recognition of the important contributions manufacturing companies make
to Minnesota's economy, Honorable Governor Arne Carlson has proclaimed
the week of October 16 as Manufacturer's Week.
Background
Specific contributions include:
• Manufacturer's employ nearly one in every five off farm workers in
Minnesota, or about 405,000 people.

• The average manufacturing. employee in Minnesota earns more
than $33,000 per year, which is 3:0 percent higher than the average
wage for all Minnesota employees.
• Manufacturers produce $22.9 billion worth of goods for Minnesota's
economy, contributing 21 percent of the overall total, the largest
single share of the gross state product.
• Manufacturing exports brought $7.3 billion into Minnesota in 1994.
• Corporate income taxes paid by manufacturing companies
contribute more than $141 million to the state, nearly one third of
Minnesota's total corporate income tax revenues.
For Sherburne County in 1993, total manufacturing wages paid was
estimated at $45..1 million. An estimated 78 manufacturing plants in the
county employed 1,516 persons for an average of nearly 20 employees per
facility.

Following its reading, the Mayor is asked to sign the attached proclamation
to help celebrate the week of October 16-20, 1995, as Manufacturer's Week in
Elk River, Minnesota.

PROCLAMATION
MANUFACTURER'S WEEK IN ELK RIVER, MINNESOTA
OCTOBER 16-20, 1995
WHEREAS, manufacturing has the largest total payroll of any business
sector in Minnesota, providing $13.5 billion in wages; and,
WHEREAS, manufacturing produces $22.9 billion for the state economy
and is the largest single share (21 percent) of all gross
product; and,
WHEREAS, manufactured exports brought $7.3 billion into the
Minnesota economy in 1994; and,
WHEREAS, manufacturing provides high skill, high wage jobs which
signih.cantly contribute to Minnesota's high standard of
living and economic vitality; and,
WHEREAS, manufacturing contributed nearly $54 million more in
corporate income taxes than any other business sector.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Henry Duitsman, Mayor of the City of Elk River,
Minnesota, do hereby proclaim the week of October 16-20, 1995, to be:
MANUFACTURER'S WEEK IN ELK RIVER, MINNESOTA.
