PURCHASE OF POLICE VEHICLES
This is to inform the City Council that Hennepin County Cooperative
Purchasing, which we are a member of, opened sealed bids for police
vehicles on August 29, 1995. The low bid was Superior Ford, Inc.
with a bid for a 1996 Ford Crown Vic of $19,287 per vehicle.
We requested quotes locally from Elk River Ford and Saxon Motors.
Saxon Motors was unable to submit a quote this year because
Chevrolet Motor Division had limited availability for 1996 police
vehicles.
The quote from Elk River Ford for a 1996 Ford Crown Vic was in the
amount of $18,978 per vehicle. This price is $309 less per vehicle
than Superior Ford. The reason for the lower price by Elk River
Ford is that the Ford Motor Company has offered a $400 per vehicle
discount until September 25, 1995. After that date, Elk River Ford
would have to increase its price to $19,378.
• The quote from Elk River Ford is a savings of $1236 compared to
Superior Ford. I'm, therefore, requesting authorization to
purchase four (4) 1996 Ford Crown Vic police vehicles from Elk
River Ford prior to September 25, 1996.
If approved, we would also be purchasing the extended warranties
for these vehicles, which would be an additional $1130 per vehicle.
We have purchased the extended warranty the last couple of years
and have found it to be a big savings on maintenance.
If you have any questions on this recommended purchase, please ,give
me a call.
