Council motion proclaiming recognition of the merits of buddy poppies.
Background/Discussion
The Elk River -Rogers VFW #5518 Ladies Auxiliary requested the Council adopt a proclamation
recognizing the merits of buddy poppies and urging all patriotic citizens to wear a buddy poppy. Poppy
Day is May 14, 2010.
The Poppy has become traditional as the Memorial Day flower and as the symbol of remembrance for
the men and women who have lost their lives or health in the defense of their country. The Elk River -
Rogers VFW #5518 Ladies Auxiliary has pledged to remind America annually of this debt through the
distribution of the memorial flower. Funds raised from the sale of poppies are used for assisting the
needy and disabled veterans, their families, and the widows and orphans of veterans.
